ComBrio Inc., providers of on-demand support for on-demand networks, unveiled its Virtual Service Infrastructure (VSI) today. ComBrio’s VSI allows any support technician to securely connect to any remote device by providing a secure, virtual, point-to-point connection over the Internet without opening a hole in the remote firewall. In today’s corporate environment where IT missions must align with the overall business and SLA’s are increasingly tight, ComBrio’s VSI improves service levels, increases security, and reduces TCO.
“Remote device support is critical to the IT infrastructure, and data centers today rely on a myriad of solutions to solve their issues, spending billions of dollars in the process,” said IDC Program Manager, Network Lifecycle Services & Software & System Support Christine Tenneson. “In today’s optimized IT environment it is critical to implement a remote device support infrastructure that is dynamic, on-demand, cost effective, and secure. ComBrio’s launch is one solution that helps in this quest.”
ComBrio has developed an agent-less technology, which does not require any on site configuration; VSI deploys two solid-state appliances, the VSImanager and VSIgateway, and a rules-based policy manager, the VSIadministrator. The three components enable support organizations to dynamically establish directed circuits and then, purge them upon completion of a service session.
“Our solution can securely extend your existing network management application from endpoint to endpoint virtually; so remote locations appear as part of your logical LAN segment,” said David LeBeau, CEO of ComBrio. “ComBrio’s VSI solution was born out of the necessity for large support organizations, whether inside a corporate environment, a service provider, or a third-party vendor, to securely access, monitor, and manage network devices.”
LeBeau continued, “The past two years has been a testing pattern, installing ComBrio’s VSI into several BETA environments. The knowledge and direction we gained with this program is evident today with a matured and complete VSI solution.”
About ComBrio’s Virtual Service Infrastructure
VSIadministrator
The VSIadministrator resides on a Linux server in the Network Operation Center (NOC). VSIadministrator logically extends the physical reach of your existing network beyond the NOC by expanding the footprint of the network. It does this by removing geographical, physical, and technical boundaries between your NOC and those remote sites it supports.
VSIadministrator is responsible for establishing and applying policy-based rules, allowing support personnel remote device access via Directed Circuits.
VSImanager
Working in conjunction with the VSIadministrator, the VSImanager allows for the acceptance of a Directed Circuit between a VSIgateway, a targeted device, and the support technician. Upon completion of remote access needs, all policies and rules are removed leaving no open path for security vulnerability. A single VSImanager can support multiple VSIgateways.
VSIgateway
The VSIgateway resides at the customer’s site, either in the DMZ or behind the protected network. It provides continuous monitoring of all targeted devices. Directed Circuits are initiated from the VSIgateway, eliminating the need to open any in-bound holes in corporate firewalls, and minimizing the security risk. A VSIgateway can manage up to 100 devices or probes per location.
